I wrote this song in 2011 shortly after Psychic Faith released our only demo. It was performed at some shows in 2012 but it was eventually dropped due to my band mates not really liking it. To be fair, the structure is one of my most basic, which probably makes it more appropriate as an acoustic song instead of a full rock arrangement anyway.
The lyrics are based on a combination of insomnia and the Centipede's Dilemma; as soon as you try to figure out how to fall asleep, you're guaranteed to stay awake for hours on end.
Lying down in my bedroom
Trying to get some rest
But the countless thoughts consume
And will not be suppressed
So paranoid about today
With tomorrow bringing fright
Thinking of the come what may
Keeps me up till' morning light
Seems like you will never know
Just how wounded you are
Till' a wave of salty sea
Caresses all your scars
Trying to trace the point where
Eyes closed becomes true sleep
But it seems you're never there
For it's not a stab but a seep
Like the smears upon the text
That don't strike but rather slip
Expecting a sword's thrust next
As the poisons miss my lips
Feel the flames beneath your feet
As you are bound to the stake
But the smoke will kill you faster
Than the fire takes
